ImageMagick Problem
« on: August 06, 2002, 11:21:30 »
I am having trouble getting ImageMagick convert to work.  My web host told me the path to ImageMagick is

/usr/local/lib  so that is what I placed in album.cfg but I get the following error....

Image Magick Error: sh: =/usr/local/lib/convert: No such file or directory

It appears ImageMagick is generating this error (correct path ??) but I do not know where or what to check...

Any help  ??

Thanks

Dick Emrich

I'd say the error is correct!  ;)

album.pl looks for convert, which it apparently isn't finding in /usr/local/lib. Not sure what to say except try to find out where it "really" is...

enter this setting in config...
/usr/local/bin

if that doesn't work try...
/usr/bin

My bet is on the first one ;)
Good luck... Tom

I tried both paths but no joy on either one....  The techs at my web host service also suggested I try the /usr/local/bin   ...I'll keep trying

Thanks

Try this script and maybe it will help you a bit, just unpack it and run in your /cgi-bin dir

download here -> http://janpel.d2g.com/pathtest.pl

Nothing new shown when I run the script.  It shows Document Root as  /home/sites/site25/web  but no hint (to me at least !!) where CONVERT is located !!

Thansk for the hint tho...

Ok.  I'm a bit lost here.  What exactly is a binary file?  Or what extension will that convert file have on it?

On my 2K box with IIS 5.0 I download the file PerMagick-full.zip.  That installed fine and I get that rainbow graident bar.  But with that install there is no files with the name convert.  So I downloaded ImageMagick-5.4.7-4.zip.  In there I found a few files have a name of convert.  Since I'm in over myhead a bit here I just copied those files into my D:\perl\site\lib\auto\image\magick folder in a vein attempt.  Regardless of what files I put in there or my path I get this error: "Image Magick Error: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. "

I know I'm missing something obvious here.  So I'm thinking I need to uncompress something or even download the proper files.

Any thoughts?

TIA

You can try this, uninstall and delete all your binarys that you have, install this -> http://janpel.d2g.com/Programs/ImageMagick-5.4.8-win2k.exe, use c:/ImageMagick as program dir, and reboot, then put c:/ImageMagick as dir in your album.cfg

good luck, worked great for me.  ;D but I don't use ImageMagick at the moment cause I try to solve a few bugs with the scripting...

Thanks for the program link.

I did what you said there and installed the w2k app and that went fine.  I installed it into the c:\imagemagick.  Set that as the path in album.pl and also set that as the path for Image_Magick in the path statement.
Rebooted of course. :)
Now I get an error of: "Image Magick Error: Access is denied."  This I assume is a permission issue on my server.  I can change my permission on my web site, but this c:\imagemagick isn't located even on the same drive as my web site.
I think I got stuck again...  ::)

I'm guessing that the "convert.exe" binary needs to be made readable to your web server ("everyone" is also safe). You might want to check the permissions on your ImageMagick dir too...

I think I'm getting somewhere.  The configuration screen sees the imagemagick dir without any errors.

Now I see these error messages...

"Image Magick Error: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

I know it's in the path.  I can type convert anywhere and it will bring up the options for that file.

I also just upgraded to 5.7, but had the same error.  So I downgraded back down to 5.6 just for now since I don't want to mess with that right now.

hmm, anyway, are you sure you entered the ImageMagick dir with a / in album.cfg (ex. c:/ImageMagick ?? I tried this myself and locally it works great but not on the net, I got error 200 ?! well, just checking, and I also have to notice that I had some troubles when I did not use the exact path, ex. Lets say I have ImageMagick in my d:\imagemagick then I have to fill in d:/imagemagick in my album.cgf file and not d:\imagemagick or d:/ImageMagick or d:/IMAGEMAGICK, do you understand me ??
