physical hardware damage
« on: May 15, 2006, 10:17:15 »
about 100 times a day my screen jiggles ... like a weird wave ... I've heard that it's cause by physical damage to hardware ... it all started when I installed a new harddrive ... SeaGate 120gig Barracudda ATA HD ... which really is only 111gigs ... I tried to find what's taking up the remaining 9gigs ... it's hard to believe that a slave drive needs 9gigs of info for basis formatting ...

The same jiggle happens when ver I run BoardMod2.whatever ... it doesn't happen in Dreamweaver 2 when I do Search and Replace ... even when I'm doing it with my entire ecommerce site of about 2000pages ... but BoardMod2.whatever does it when it search/replaces one signle letter in one file ... just for kicks and giggles I made a file with just the number 1 in it and replaced it with 2 and it still did the jiggle jiggle ... lol

Okey Dokey chilly smoke ... the spirits are about to speak ...
after these smokes my lungs'll be black

It sounds like your monitor is going. Try tinkering with your settings, or better yet, test your system on another monitor to see if it still happens. I'd also check the power to make sure you have enough amps to draw on for everything plugged into the outlet.

brand new ... I've had the comp and monitor for about 3 months ... from HP ... amps ... probably the case ... also the interntal connection cables aren't the highest quality ... I had to replace the one from the harddrive to the motherboard on both the original hp harddrive and the seagate because they kept dropping of the system ... I'd try to open a folder on the slave and I'd get a ... failure to open folder do to the folder you're trying to open either doesn't exsist on this computer or exsists on a remote computer ... something like that ... and everytime I turn on the computer and restart I have to load the root drive menu and select the root drive ... because I get ... Can Not find NTFS file ... I've reformatted both drives as Fat and/or Fat32 in different ways ... When the computer was delivored the Fed Ex guy almost dropped it ... he slipped on the ice but made a very awesome save ... but this makes me think that somewhere along the way it got banged around abit ...

as far as amps ... I have an old powerstrip that's called PC Accessories ..
one main switch and 5 other switch ... it one of those flat moniter stands that has the outlets in the back and the switches that each light up when they are on ... it old .. and I have monitor, tower, modem, 5.1 surround sound system and 1 lamp plugged into it ... the building I live in is fairly new ... but it would not surprise me if they the builder skimpt on breakers ... can't expect too much from public housing ...

as far as testing it on another monitor .. lol .. the other monitor I have Compact Persario V410e ... that slowly fades to blur as time goes by ... lol ... about 15minutes of on time and I can't read a thing ... that's why I quit smoking and drinking and save for 8 long months to buy this puppy ...

HP Pavilion a1200e that was supposed to cost under $500 but ended up being closer to $700 ... instead of the $100 mail in rebate ... I only got $50 because they said my moniter didn't qualify for the mail in rebate ... I sent the a photocopy of the add for what I ordered and where it said $100 but they never got back to me ... the mouse the sent doesn't work ... on this computer ... the on board connection is weak at best ... I opened 'er up and checked out the sodering and it minimal at best for the p2p ... I'd send it back but the same day I bought it I put in a dvd burner and the seagate ... I called HP to get a new Realtek network card because it won't read any connect that's hooked up through it ... I've tried 3 diffent modems and had 3 different Compast Techs install it ... got booted 7 or 8 times from the HP online Live Chat Tech Support because me computer crashed ... everything they told me to do make it worse and I had to wipe the drives out ... take everything apart ... clean it ... and put it all back together again ... bought a new copy of windows XP SP2 ...

I'm ok with how things are at the moment .. but believe you me ... If I knew before hand that I was going to have spent a grend before now I would have built the thing from scratch the first time ...

Thanxs for listening to me vent ... much appreciated ... I'm having a baby ... this week .. middle of next week the lastest ... pretty exsited ...  ::)  I'm glad the weather cleared up ... school's been cancelled cause of the floods and rain ... they've been using the gym as temp shelter cause roads are washed out in the neighboring towns ... I saw a house slide down a hill and smash right into the house next to it ... luckily everyone was outside talking to eachother watching the stream that used to be their street phlow by ... and it just started to slide off the fondation ... it's real interesting to see ... I wish I had a video camera!!  one of the neighbors did and they showed it on our local news ...
