Descriptions causes loss of album.cfg
« on: November 13, 2002, 16:02:29 »
Let me just start out with the fact that this is a GREAT program and easy to install and fun to display photos.

I am running RH 7.3 and album.pl 6.0 Beta.  Users can upload pictures great and I can view them....but

I am having a problem with all users who edit descriptioins and ratings.  It seems that once they go in to edit and post them the album.cfg looses all of the variables.

I have validated permissions for album.cfg (666) file as well as my photo albums (776) so the web server can write in the directories (it actually writes the ratings/descriptions file, but album.pl will not run anymore because of missing config).  just get ERROR: Line 6197 because my config is empty!

Any ideas on where to check next.

Hi ddurig,

Looks like you've got it set up right, so it's probably a bug. When you see the problem, are you by chance editing the last photo in the album? There was a bug that caused album.pl to throw an error when you edit the last photo, but it should have been fixed a while ago (in the .6.0 beta).

How long ago did you download?

Thanks

I am actually editing either the newest folder itself, or any of the photos that that are in that folder.

I also tried rating a photo that was in the middle of one of the albums and got the same result.  I downloaded around November 6.

I did try to use the upgrade function, but I got the feeling that it only checked for major releases.  I will download again and overwrite the album.pl file and let to know later today.

Thanks again for the support and a wonderful app!

Ok, so I downloaded the newest version of 6.0 and installed it today.  A few notes for you.

I like the new buttons!! MUCH easier to read.

When I make changes via the web interface nothing really changes.  Does not matter since I use vi anyway, but there seems to be a few folks who would care. ;)  I did not test this real well either, so I could have just messed something up.

The GUI compains about the path not being there for images anymore even when they are (most likely since you changed from relative album directory to relative album.pl directory, good move).

I no longer loose my config when someone tries to update thier descriptions, but a non-admin user goes to the config page!!!! which to me is better than ruining my whole album, but not quite there yet as I do not want these users to be able to reconfig my album.

I can not help but think that it has something to do with the FUNCTIONS part of the config.  I have modified all of the passwords from the defaults.  Instead of prompting me for the password to modify it just takes me to the config page.

Let me know if I may have missed something.  Thanks for the great support and app!

I've seen that kind of funkiness when 2 or more of the function codes are the same. So for example, if config=blah and update_desc=blah, you're going to get weird stuff going on. (Like entering the config menu when you update a description.)

I tried tinkering with the descriptions on some files, and it seems to work OK for me... :(

If you want me to take a look at your album, just let me know.

P.S. Glad you like the new buttons. As you may have seen, just about every file in this version of 6.0 has been drastically changed, so it's a "nuke and pave" kind of upgrade...

P.P.S. The "Check for Updates" only checks for an updated production release - betas aren't counted...

That would be the problem.   :) If any of them are the same then there are problems with how it performs.  Thanks for the help and quick responses.

If you want to check the site it is presently at http://bigdan.no-ip.com:81/cgi-bin/album.pl This may change shortly to port 80 as I was just getting the site ready.

Thanks for the help and all your work on a great app!
