MemoriesOnTV 2.0
« on: August 22, 2003, 09:19:54 »
For those that have ever been to www.dinofilias.com, you'll know that I have a photo-archiving fetish.

I archived a few hundred pictures from my mom's albums dating 1939 - 1972.

Since my parents can't access my online photo gallery (no internet, no computer, YIKES!) I wanted to put something together for them so they could see the photo galleries on their DVD player.

I found the PERFECT software companion to album.pl: MemoriesOnTV 2.0!

In a nutshell, you drag directories of photos from your local into the application. You can then set the chapter indexing to use the first picture from each directory as the DVD chapter thumbnail (when you're playing the DVD, you can select different directories).

After running the program, it spit out a CD that worked in my DVD player (and mine is an older one). The results were IMPRESSIVE!

Read what they say on www.cnet.com:

Publisher's Description
MemoriesOnTV allows you to create a video CD or DVD with visual effects and music from your digital photos and video clips. MemoriesOnTV has true DVD authoring; the created video can be burnt onto CD-R(W) or DVD+-R(W) using the built-in burner software, and then played on a TV via standard DVD players. You can also play the CD/DVD on a PC with a software DVD player installed. You can add text to your pictures, organize them into multiple albums (or subalbums), pan & zoom them, and create a menu to navigate your albums. The original pictures/videos can also be stored on the same CD/DVD, so you can access them for printing at any time.

Download free trial

CNET > Downloads > Windows > Audio & Video > Video > MemoriesOnTV

All I can say is: IMPRESSIVE! VERY IMPRESSIVE!

Only downside: it takes a long time for the application to compile a video before it's burned to CD. I think I had 500MB worth of pictures and it took almost an hour to compile. It was damn worth it though.

I can't stop talking about it. This is an awesome app, especially for those with photo gallery fetishes like myself. And if you're using album.pl, there's a good chance you have a photo gallery fetish. ;D

Hey, that's awesome!

I'm definitely on board the photo album fetish, my family album has nearly 15,000 photos in it now. And MemoriesOnTV sounds like a great way to get my photos "out there."

I'm on the verge of buying a DVD burner too, so this is timely...

My only problem: my parents have a computer, but no DVD player. ;)

Cheers

Mike, you know I love to put together little tutorials such as ACDSee and Album.pl - A groovy kind of love, which is also posted in your Tips and Tricks Forum.

I put together a little "get-to-know-me" tutorial for MemoriesOnTV 2.0. You can see it in action here: MemoriesOnTV 2.0

It's a VERY IMPRESSIVE complement to album.pl and those of us that are photo and video archivists!

Let me know if you want me to post that tutorial in your Tips and Tricks forum, like I did with ACDSee.

As an update: I bought MOTV (now at version 2.1.3) and it's great. I've made a few video CDs and DVDs, and they're all very quick to create and look fantastic.

My eventual plan is to convert all of my photos to this format. Once nice feature is you can include the original images on the DVD, so the "full size" content is browsable and never lost. A great way to archive.
